Product Details

This is a wonderful vintage 1940s novelty print dress made with rayon crepe fabric.  It features a Greco-Roman pattern - gladiators, lions, columns, centurions, toga clad men etc.  It is made in an attractive tone of turquoise with the print being in black and white.  The dress is made with padded shoulders, above-the-elbow length sleeves, a V shaped neckline with a button-down tab on either lapel, three decorative buttons down the bodice that create the impression of a shirt-style dress, a defined waistline with matching belt and has tucking below the waistline, which gives the skirt of the dress a draped look.  It closes at the side with a brass tooth zipper.  The dress has a below the knee length.

Label: No label

Sizing: No size is indicated, and although this should fit a medium size, please note the following measurements for fit, taking into account the style of the garment:

Shoulders:  17 1/2” across from shoulder/sleeve seam to shoulder/sleeve seam

Sleeve: 10” long from the shoulder/sleeve seam

Bust:  45” around, taken under the arms

Waist:  35” around uncinched, meant to be cinched with the belt - the belt has a length of 34” and closes with a hook and snap, so these would have to be moved if you need a different sizing

Hips:  Full, 52” around, meant to fall loosely in drapes

Length:  44” measured flat

Condition: Unfortunately, it does have some discolouration at the top of the shoulders, mostly on the left shoulder (see last close-up photos). It is a greying to the white areas and probably caused by exposure to dust while hanging in a closet.  I’ve worked on it a bit, but don’t want to try anything harsh - perhaps you have a cleaning agent that would work on this.  Otherwise, the dress is still presentable.

This is a fun novelty print 40s era rayon dress…..sold “as is”….
